Read and listen.
Same spot.

I read fast and listen slow, or the other way around depending on the day. TomoTomo keeps your ebook and your audiobook on the same sentence, so switching is just hitting play.

Reading on the train.

Chapter 2, and it knows the exact sentence you're on. Down to the character.

Your stop. Hit play.

The audiobook opens on that sentence. Not the start of the chapter. The sentence.

Earbuds in for the walk home.

Words light up as the narrator reads them, and the book follows along.

Open the book after dinner.

It's on the line the narrator stopped at. Same day, no prompt. Come back tomorrow and it asks first.

Two extras, for when you want them.

Both are optional, and both show you exactly what gets sent before anything leaves your phone.

Companion

Ask about the book you're reading. Catch up on the last chapter or figure out who someone is. You pick how much of the book it can see, so it can't spoil the ending unless you let it.

Try it. Same question, three answers.

Free to try on every book. Then 50 messages for $4.99.

Wait, who's the Wicked Witch of the West?

How much of the book can it see?

She hasn't shown up yet. On this page the Witch of the North tells Dorothy there are four witches in Oz, and the two in the East and the West are wicked.

Chapter 2

So far she's just a name: the only wicked witch left in Oz, now that Dorothy's house landed on the one in the East. You haven't met her. Nothing past chapter 2.

Chapters 1 and 2

Spoilers. She rules the Winkies, sends wolves, crows, bees and the Winged Monkeys after Dorothy, and melts when Dorothy throws a bucket of water on her.

Chapter 12

Imagine

Select a passage and get a picture of it, drawn from the text on the page. It remembers what your characters look like, so Toto stays the same dog from one picture to the next. It can make a custom cover for any book or audiobook too, and everything it draws stays on your phone.

Free to try on every book. Then 15 images for $2.99.

Imagine's watercolor of the Emerald City: a green marble street of shops selling green candy, popcorn, shoes, hats and dresses
Made in Imagine, from chapter 11.

And all the regular reader stuff.

  • Read along

It listens to short bits of your audiobook, right on your phone, and lines them up with the text. The sentence being narrated lights up as you read.

  • It pairs them for you

Import the ebook and the audiobook and it works out they're the same book. Guess wrong? Pair them by hand.

  • Play from here

Select any words and the audio jumps right to them. Or search for a line you remember and send the audiobook to that chapter.

  • Real lock screen controls

Pause, skip and scrub from the lock screen, Control Center or your headphones.

  • Five themes, one is true black

White, sepia, warm, gray and black, plus fonts, spacing and margins you can actually tune.

  • Highlights and a notebook

Mark lines, jot notes, and find all of them later in one place.

  • Speed and a sleep timer

    Because obviously.

  • Your files, not a store

Whatever you already own, however you got it. No new library to buy into, and no paying Amazon twice for a book you already bought.

  • A free shelf to start with

Public domain books and their audiobooks, downloaded straight into your library.

  • On your iPad too

Your place, highlights and stats follow you to your other devices. No email needed.

  • No audiobook? PDF audio

Have a PDF narrated for you. The audio saves to your phone and plays like any other audiobook.

Questions

How much does it cost?

The app is free, and so is reading and listening to your own books. Companion, Imagine and PDF audio run on credits: 50 Companion messages are $4.99, 15 Imagine images are $2.99, and PDF audio starts at $4.99 for 10,000 characters. Companion and Imagine get a free trial on every book first. No subscription.

Where do the books come from?

You bring them. TomoTomo opens EPUB and PDF books and plays M4B audiobooks and folders of MP3s, straight from the Files app. There's also a free store of public domain books from Project Gutenberg and audiobooks from LibriVox. It doesn't sell books, and it doesn't connect to Audible, Kindle or Libby.

What if it pairs the wrong audiobook?

Pair them yourself. Pick the book, pick the audio, done. You can unlink them any time.

Do I need an account?

No. Sync runs on an anonymous account, so your place, highlights and stats follow you to your other devices without an email. Sign in only if you want to. And there are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Your files stay on your device, and reading, listening, page scanning and lining the audio up with the text all work without a connection. Sync, Companion, Imagine and the free store need one.

What does Companion send, and where?

Nothing until you send a message. Then it sends the part of the book you picked (nearby text, everything up to where you are, or the whole book) to TomoTomo's server, which uses OpenAI to write the reply. Your conversations stay on your phone.

Which devices?

iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later, and Macs with Apple silicon. No Android.

Your books. Your audio.
